SEWA - Micro financing for women
Submitted by harshal on Tue, 2009-03-10 11:23.Micro-financing has taken off in a big way and is no longer a 'micro' business. Organizations like Kiva pioneered this concept on a global scale. Now, in India, Ella Bhatt has helped a social revolution through SEWA.
Sewa finances women who make Agarbattis (incense sticks), bangles, kites, bidis or sell vegetables, recycle paper etc. These are small enterprises which go a long way in making the women economically independant.

work and life balance
Submitted by kk on Fri, 2009-02-27 09:13.
Recently I got a
forwarded sms which goes something like this ‘I work for money if you want
loyalty hire a dog’. Such forwarded messages are just for fun but this one
stuck in my mind. How relevant or realistic this statement can be? In present
context when companies are releasing pink slips at the rate of dozen a dime why
should anyone be loyal to their organization.
As a corollary there are more queries. What is
correct balance of work and personal life?

Lost in Reporting...
Submitted by ankitkhale on Tue, 2009-02-03 02:19.Judiciary, Legislature, Executive and Press, the so called four pillars of Democracy with the press acting as a control mechanism to the former three and keeping them in check (that's the expectation)
Recently, a Journo and her media house took on a hapless blogger and served him a legal notice for exercising freedom of speech and commenting on their reporting during 26/11...
what a mega crime the poor guy did....he chose to speak his mind..didn't he know that its the Journo's prerogative, you say anything against them and guess what ....they will sue you.

5 Ways to Overhaul Your Meetings Manners
Submitted by puneetarora on Wed, 2009-01-28 10:36.Business meetings can be functional or frustrating, catalysts or
catastrophes, inspirational or insipid. But it’s not always random fate
that decides which kind you’ll be getting. You can help influence the
tone and course of any meeting you attend by honing your meeting
etiquette.
Etiquette, you say? For a meeting? But of course. In any gathering
of people, a focus on good manners ensures that everyone is comfortable
and that interactions go smoothly. That can enhance effectiveness and
productivity during any collaborative process.
Whether you’re an attendee or an organizer, brushing up on your manners is just smart business. Here are five points to ponder.
1. Respect people’s time.

Luck, labour, chance
Submitted by futurestudent on Mon, 2009-01-12 05:52.The look on his face is gloomy. The feeling is contagious and the within no time the entire group of friends feels the same. Everyone in the group is more or less the same, aspiring post-graduates, same group, perhaps even the same class or specialization but for one difference. A few get placed early on and the remaining will too sooner or later get placed. No wonder those who miss getting placed by a whisker feel depressed. But is it a big deal?
