Dhruv: The baap of all events.

As a fact of matter there are more that 90 management institutes in the city of Pune. No matter what status they have in the country rankings or population wise, they cannot beat the enormity of Dhruv, the annual event of PUMBA. When you get 1600+ registrations from 100+ colleges all across the state, you know that people respect you. Such is the might of Dhurv, the biggest B-school event in the city and probably in the state.

Dhruv ’10, just like every year began with a mighty uproar on the 11th of Jan and concluded on the 13th of Jan with a gala function with about a thousand people taking the charge as audience. This is the time when even the concrete in the institute gets a new life and is personified with the help of decorations that Pumbaites themselves do. A new theme every year, a fresh beginning every time itself signifies the enthusiasm and the zeal that
Pumbaites carry in organizing this mega event.

Dhruv is not known because of Pumba, rather Pumba because of Dhruv.

There are more than 30 different games or competitions in which the number of team entries would have been anywhere between 10 to 50. When you have such a massive response, it calls for a combined effort from all the students. And even this year Pumbaites proved that they are the best at what they do.

We all know how movie makers strive hard to make it to the Oscars or cricketers fight it out to win the world cup. Believe me when I tell you that management colleges in the city kill to win the rolling trophy. I even overheard someone saying that one of the management colleges in the city actually gave its students a three day holiday so that they could participate in Dhruv. There is a battle not only for winning an event but also for having maximum entries from their respective colleges in that event. In the event ‘Tug of war’, I never felt as if they were taking it as a sport. It felt as if they were pulling in order to rescue someone who had fallen in a well. Participants of the event ‘Treasure hunt’ were running around the vast campus as if their life depended on it. Contestants in contests like management games or sports like Cricket or Football argued over even trivial things when they felt that their rivals have the slightest advantage. I distinctly remember a few faces that were present for all the three days of the event. Either because they participated in almost all the competitions or they were worth remembering. In fact, Dhruv turned out to be a good place for the students of Ornithology. Wink

From sports to games to management, there was something for everyone in this fest. Even for us. After all, where else could we have got such a brilliant opportunity to put our theoretical learning’s into practice?

We are all Pumbaites and we did it for PRIDE, PASSION and PUMBA.
