It was HOT, but it was not Radio Mirchi. So what am I talking about, no points for guessing. Summers’07. I don’t mean to offend any of the participants nor am I the right person to judge the summer projects because I know nothing about management but in my strictly personal opinion on the first day my personal favorite was the one on interactive marketing by a participant from NITIE.

It was crisp just like hot chips, sharp, sweet, smooth and too the point. Although he well overshot his time his hard work was clearly reflected in his slides, his voice, and his presentation. The MBA-BT marketing and MBA-General HR PUMBA presentations were outstanding too. So what made those participants stand out?

My friend has taken a loan to finance his MBA. The security—his house or may be his land. He studies damn hard, because he has everything to loose. And in my humble opinion only two people can succeed in life:

One who has everything to loose and the other who has nothing to loose.

What separates success from failure, winners from the underdogs, the BEST from the REST is just one word. KNOWLEDGE. Period. Unfortunately we tend to forget that quite often.

In the inaugural speech in Summers’07 by our current HOD Dr. Anil Keskar, said that every MBA students knows about the importance of soft skills in management (communication and presentation skills). But we waste a lot of time trying to improve on them, which should have been spent on increasing our knowledge. As I embark on my quest for knowledge at PUMBA I will never forget his words. If you have the KNOWLEDGE, you can speak at length on any topic. Because if you have given your best and shown that passion, commitment and enthusiasm, no matter if you speak in German or Spanish people will understand and appreciate you.
