Continuing with the increased industry - student interaction for the MBA++ batch at PUMBA , a guest lecture was organised on November 24 2007.

Students of PUMBA -Department of Management Sciences, University of Pune were captivated by Mr. S.P. Bhave’s lecture on "Teamwork through Leadership" at PUMBA Campus.

Mr Santosh Bhave is the VP-HR , Bharat Forge Limited , Pune which is the second largest forging company in the world.

His message to the PUMBA Students was concise - "….While emphasis in your MBA programme is more towards preparing you for business management, Leadership is one of the many assets a successful manager must possess and for any organisation to succeed, Teamwork is a must "

Dr.Capt.C.M .Chitale , Dean, DMS (PUMBA) in his welcome address added "We are pleased and honored to have Mr S.P. Bhave here at PUMBA. Mr Bhave has a special attachment with this dept . as he has done his doctrate from here and have guided students before as well .We look forward to his valauble insights on the topic that will help PUMBA students to become leaders and good team players in the future. "

Mr Bhave said "... A Leader has two aspects to him - Vision , and Architecture which includes the process,system and design to pursue that vision. He explained it using the formula prove -> exhibit -> execute . Speaking of vision, he explained how Bharat forge is working towards becoming the largest forging company in the world and how the vision of its Chairman & Managing Director Mr. B.N. Kalyani was instrumental in making it happen..."

Also one point he made was Great performers do not always make great leaders . A person might be a good performer but to be a leader he must have vision, strategies, goals, and values be the guide-post for action for his team rather than being a sole performer.

He pointed out that performance of individuals does not necessarily mean that the whole team has performed well . A team can only succeed when there is teamwork and proper guidance . A successful team is a team which works together closely with contirbution by its team members and is guided by a good leader.

Finally, he gave the students some insights about the recruitment process and how he manages it .

This guest lecture was a great insight on Teamwork and Leadership for the budding managers at PUMBA as it helped them to associate theory with real life experiences. In the end ,the session ended with a promise to continue this relationship with more in-depth discussions and guest lectures on various other topics by other eminent industry persons.
