Joh desh ke kaam na aaye, woh bekar jawani hai”
-- Rang De Basanti
It was not Dhruv ’08, neither was it Nostalgia ’08 but still 18 January 2008 was a red letter day in the history of PUMBA because many PUMBAites rolled up there sleeves not to fight a war but to contribute whole heartedly to the noble cause of humanity. Blood was drawn from every vein but without any pain the students of PUMBA submitted themselves to the service of mankind. The blood donation camp organized by Subir of MBA 1st year saw volunteers donate blood for the blood bank of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. Instead of lethargy after the donation it was an exhilarating experience for many students including me who had never experienced blood donation before. In the words of Victor Frankl, the famous author of Man’s Search for Meaning, “Success must not be pursued directly; it must ensue as an unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself” and what better opportunity PUMBAites could have got to serve a great cause than the one they did on 18th Jan.
PUMBA is once again geared up to face the challenge of HIV awareness as it organizes a social awareness event on 8th March 2008. For the burgeoning and underprivileged population of Bharat such events are a small step, perhaps a speck rather than the large amount of help that is required to treat the malaise that infects them but for us the step is a big one, perhaps the first towards Corporate Social Responsibility. And after the response to the blood donation camp it would be no surprise to see an overwhelming response once again to a social cause. EVERY GENERATION NEEDS A NEW REVOLUTION. This may be a chance for us to prove that we are all-rounders but more importantly it is an ushering of a new revolution.
