Peepli [Live] is a refreshing satire on our society and systems we live in today. Story of a family with an old bed ridden mother, two brothers, wife of one of them and their children. Movie moves around the basic theme of indebtedness. Names of the characters are directly taken from Premchand stories. There's Budhiya, Dhaniya, Hori and of course Natha.

Movie has an excellent first half!! Nothing sells like poverty and misery. Apathy of administration, politician, media; movie shows it all. There's Barkha Dutta, Deepak Chaurasia and the 'sansani' guy. There're usual politicians, there's a DM and Agriculture Secretary too. Everyone searching for her/his share of pie. Cast selection is superb, handpicked to be precise. Cinematography is excellent. Dialogues are good but at some places there are over dose of pure hindi abuses.

Best scene of the movie: DM offering hand pump, 'lal bahadur', to the farmer inclined on suicide :)

Whether its plight of farmers, hollowness of media, live jounalism, rule bound bureaucracy, opportunist politicians...movie leaves none. And in typical apathetic response, minister in the movie comes up with the solution for the problem: 'Natha card'

And yes the song: sakhi, saiyaan to bahut hi kamat hai; mehngai dayan khaye jaat hai.

Peepli [Live] is in class of Jaane bhi do Yaaron...characters from Premchand, reminds of Mai Azaad Hu. Massi Sahab, Raghubir Yadav ,is at his best!! Couldn’t recognise any of the other actors but all do justice to their character.

A must watch.
